Apple integrated the iPhone 12 series with its brand-new MagSafe charging system. Effectively, they all have a magnet built directly into them so that, when paired with a MagSafe charger, the iPhone magnetically snaps in and charges. It eliminates the need to find that perfect alignment that most wireless chargers still require.
The MagSafe accessory is compatible with the latest iPhone models, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max. The new smartphone is indeed equipped with a series of special components on the back to attach the MagSafe accessory. For the battery charging function, the MagSafe charger can be directly attached to the iPhone 12 like charging an Apple Watch.
How to use your MagSafe Charger with iPhone 12 models
The charging process will be carried out wirelessly with a power output of 15 watts. The MagSafe support component built into the iPhone 12 lineup also allows the phone to recognize and react according to the type of accessory attached. For example, there is a MagSafe cover which when installed will make the iPhone screen display a clock, which can be seen through a hole in the cover.
Set up Your MagSafe Charger
On iPhone 12 models, MagSafe Charger (sold separately) magnetically snaps to the back of iPhone or to its MagSafe case or sleeve (sold separately) and aligns iPhone properly, allowing you to hold and use iPhone while it’s charging. Here’s how to set up it.
- Connect MagSafe Charger to power using the Apple 20W USB-C power adapter or another compatible power adapter (sold separately) or compatible third-party USB-C adapter. You can also connect to a USB-C port on a Mac or PC.
- Place MagSafe Charger on the back of iPhone or its MagSafe case or sleeve. When iPhone starts charging, the green charging symbol appears.
Currently, only a few MagSafe accessories are available for the iPhone 12. The number will likely increase over time. Fortunately, Apple opened its ecosystem to third parties, so that later the MagSafe market would be enlivened by other companies.
The MagSafe Charger is designed to quickly and safely wirelessly charge your iPhone 12. The system intelligently adapts to conditions in order to optimize charging iPhone 12 at up to 15W of peak power delivery for faster wireless charging. The actual power delivered to the iPhone will vary depending on the wattage of the power adapter and system conditions. For iPhone 12 mini, the MagSafe delivers up to 12W of peak power delivery.
How MagSafe Charger Works?
The magnet array in the iPhone 12 is used to align MagSafe accessories with the iPhone, and that includes any third-party accessory that utilizes the MagSafe magnet ring setup. As part of the MagSafe ring, Apple has a new magnetometer and an NFC ring, which both aid in the detection of MagSafe accessories. This can lead to interesting interactions.
For instance, connecting one of Apple’s silicone MagSafe cases to an iPhone 12 while the screen is on causes the screen to flash the color of the case as a digital MagSafe ring animates on the screen.
How to Cleaning the MagSafe Charger
Apple recommends cleaning the MagSafe charger with a soft, lint-free cloth. Abrasive cleaning cloths need to be avoided, as do cleaning agents. Apple recommends excessive wiping, which could cause damage, and says that bleaches and aerosol sprays shouldn’t be used. MagSafe Chargers can be disinfected with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe, as long as no moisture gets in any openings.
